Virtual meetings have become ubiquitous during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the “work from home” culture, businesses around the world have come online. Companies have found this work culture to be beneficial, so we are getting used to it as well. But on the other hand, there is also the concern of what the face looks like on the screen, how is the body language in the meeting, what will be the formal appearance, etc. Will the meeting be interrupted by noise from children or noise from cats? And most importantly, if you are a woman, your voice can be a matter of great concern.

New research on video conferencing platforms has shown that services like Zoom, Skype, and Teams do not always transmit all sounds the same to their users. According to Oliver Niebuhr, associate professor at the Center for Industrial Electronics at the University of Southern Denmark, and Ingo Siegert, assistant professor at the University of Magdeburg, voices compress, not all frequencies are retained and are not heard clearly.

According to the researchers, the voices of women in particular are affected, their voices seem less expressive and charismatic than those of men. According to him, this aspect becomes even more dominant due to the disruption of the Internet connection, due to which women have to face more inconvenience. He stressed the need to further improve the technology. According to Oliver Niebuhr, if you want to persuade someone about an issue, to keep their interest in you, then it’s important that you show a wonderful personality. In this context, our voice becomes more important.
