Gary Wallin, of Wallin Funeral Home in Oak Harbor, is stepping down from his role on the Oak Harbor School Board after more than 15 years of service.
He will finish his service at the end of the month.
Wallin announced his decision at Tuesdays’s School Board meeting.
Wallin said his service to the district started some 36 years ago when his son was four years old. That’s when he started being a “volunteer in some form” culminating in his tenure on the board.
Having seen the district emerge from years of struggle to its recent years of success, Wallin said he feels it’s time to move on.
Wallin said he is proud of the students, teachers and administrators he has worked with because of what they have accomplished. Wallin said he is looking forward to new challenges such as his position on the new Main Street board, the aim of which is to encourage and support downtown business in Oak Harbor.
“It’s been a wonderful ride,” Wallin said Tuesday. “I’m at the top of the mountain and I decided it’s time to step back.”
