It is the season of giving, but one local group strives to give support and assistance to Whidbey Island women all year long.
Most recently, the Whidbey Island branch of American Association of University Women collected many large bags of personal and household items at the group’s annual holiday luncheon. AAUW’s Vice President of Programs, Camille Brighten, then delivered the items to Annie Singletary of Citizens Against Domestic Abuse. The donated items will be given to women and children who have been sheltered by CADA and may now be settling up housekeeping on their own.
The AAUW was founded in 1881. Different branches of the group have worked together for more than 130 years as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of women and their families across the country, not just during the holidays, but every day.
We commend our local AAUW branch for its ongoing involvement and extending a helping hand towards those in need of assistance.
