Telephone scammers target Tricare beneficiaries

Military public affairs personnel are warning Tricare beneficiaries in the Puget Sound Military Health System to beware of a telephone scam affecting beneficiaries, especially those over 65 and on Medicare.

According to a release from Naval Hospital Bremerton public affairs, a caller identifying themselves as being an official Tricare pharmacy representative will ask the beneficiary for specific information, such as address, phone number and doctor’s name. The caller is hoping to convince beneficiaries to share even more personal information such as a social security number.

Officials want beneficiaries to be advised Tricare does not ask for this information. Anyone who receives a call like this is asked to not share any personal information such as birth date, social security number or banking information.
